Adoption mode full on
Three boys, two houses
Welcome to our instant family
Thanksgiving 2016. Our good old Victorian house was ready to receive our three little boys. Books on the shelves, toys piled up in the playroom and their photos scattered around the house. Adoption mode full on.
Placed in two different foster-homes (later on we were told there was a plan to separate the brothers if we didn’t adopt them), Roman and Leighton remained together in one foster mum and JJ, only five months old when taken into foster care, was placed with a lovely young family forty minutes apart from his brothers.
Introduction was organized over thirteen days and started on the afternoon of Thursday the 27th of October. Nervous, anxious and very scared we walked towards the brown front door where Roman and Leighton lived. We can still hear their voices calling our names from inside the house. Jeff and I spent the first week with them, increasing gradually our time together. It was exhausting! But nothing ever felt so right. On day 6 we met our little baby boy and all the pieces tumbled into place. Our family started to get more and more real with each day that passed, and the loss of the chateau seemed far, far away.
Parenting being a full-time job wasn’t news to us; the job description is very clear. However, nobody can ever possibly make you see how intense, wearing and overwhelming it gets. Our friends tried to tell us, but fell short.
Its been two weeks since the boys moved in and our house is in full swing, Jeff is fighting the second week of his worst flu ever, and our three little musketeers are challenging our patience to the limit –not to mention our culinary skills— but our performance keeps improving with every bump and every tear we kissed away.
Happy thanksgiving everyone!
